Art Travel Program

Cape Dorset & Iqaluit | 7 - 11 November 2016

Led by Gaëtane Verna alongside William Huffman of Dorset Fine Arts as our guide, The Power Plant lined up a stimulating itinerary which provided great insight into all that Cape Dorset and Iqaluit have to offer including a series of artist studio visits and meetings with a multi-generational/disciplinary cross-section of Cape Dorset's residents, which illuminated the cultural, historical and social topics that inform the contemporary Inuit art landscape.

Throughout this five-day, six-night art adventure, guests connected with local artists and the land. This included exclusive access to demos and the archives at West Baffin Eskimo Co-op print studios and visits with local soapstone carvers, as well as meetings with Elders who shared knowledge about traditional practices, art, tool making, hunting and survival. Our patrons visited Malikjuaq Park by boat and partook in a guided hike to the ancient Thule Sod house village site, then to Inuksuk and Aupaluktuk Park.
