Art of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution: 1966-1976

On view at The Power Plant from 7 December, 2002 – 2 March, 2003, Art of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution: 1966-1976 was an exhibition that examined art produced during China's "Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution." This accompanying catalogue features essays by curators Scott Watson and Shengtian Zheng, a chronology of the events leading up to the GPCR and the its subsequent collapse following Mao Zedong's death in 1976, English translations of the political slogans of the time, and an annotated checklist of the 156 works in the exhibition of the same name (in English and Chinese). It is printed on newsprint in emulation of the style of a political pamphlet.
