Threshold: An exhibition where physical, mental and emotional spaces intersect

On view from 3 April – 14 June in 1998, Threshold: An exhibition where physical, mental and emotional spaces intersect was a groundbreaking exhibition of new works by nine artists from Canada and abroad, curated by Louise Dompierre. Just as an architectural threshold marks a passage from one space into another, a threshold in this context indicates a transition into an ethereal world. The exhibition, which consisted of a series of ten rooms, conflated physical, mental, and emotional space as a site for contemplation, and represented a shift from exclusively secular concerns. The catalogue includes essays, colour reproductions of the installations, as well as an essay by Timothy Murray and Antonio Guzman, which is written in both French and English.
