Artists Explore Screen Space

Ryan Trecartin : Any Ever / Sharon Lockhart : Podwórka / Peter Campus : Reflections and Inflections / Joachim Koester : Hypnagogia

26 March - 24 May, 2010
Opening Reception: Thursday, 25 March, 8 PM

For our Spring 2010 season we are excited to present four solo exhibitions by artists working in different ways with the moving image and the idea of “screen space.” Video pioneer Peter Campus presents a pair of works spanning thirty-five years and representing both sculptural and pictorial uses of the medium. Nineteen-eighties-born wünderkind Ryan Trecartin’s frantic video practice very much speaks of a generation raised by the Internet, with the attendant identity crises and overstimulation engendered therein. The elegant film and photographic portraiture of Sharon Lockhart is a potent example of the anthropological impulse in contemporary art. Finally, Joachim Koester’s sensual and enigmatic trio of 16mm films, ‘Hypnagogia’, explores gesture, body language and unconscious impulses. These four exhibitions are presented as part of the 23rd Images Festival.
