POWER BALL 8—Thursday 1 June 2006—was Gorgeously Flawed!

PowerBall8Gorgeously Flawed: Power Ball 8—The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery’s annual fundraising event—brought together the who’s who of Toronto’s contemporary arts and culture worlds and turned heads this year with Gorgeously Flawed.

Power Ball 8 awed guests in inventive and electrifying ways. Contemporary art, music, film and fashion will fuse in dynamic settings to reflect various interpretations of “Gorgeously Flawed”, pillared on the idea that beauty stems from imperfection.

“Think: ‘Kate Moss on the Rocks’,” says Gregory Burke, Director of The Power Plant. “This year we are taking it up yet another notch at Power Ball 8 to reflect in, dare I say, shocking ways, the vitality of contemporary artists — it’s strongly connected to what we do year-round at The Power Plant by showcasing some of the world’s best and most thought-provoking works.”

Filthy rhymes, funky beats and power pop wowed guests as Vancouver's Stink Mitt, Toronto's Kids On TV and Montreal's Malajube performed at Power Ball 8. The evening's entertainers jolted attendees, propelling them to join in the fun as participants rather than just spectators, morphing into entertainers—becoming "gorgeously flawed" artists in their own right for the evening. The ladies of the Pillow Fight League were on the prowl all evening, pillows always at the ready, wrestling when least expected.
