Scott Lyall

A major solo exhibition featuring Toronto artist Scott Lyall, the centerpiece of which is Lyall's 2008 commission for The Power Plant. Lyall combines drawing, painting, sculpture, and found objects into spare yet complex sculptural environments. Delving into themes such as the links between graphic processes, sculptural display, and the design legacies of Conceptualism, Lyall makes his sculptures from everyday materials like particle board and Styrofoam and incorporates minor, ephemeral fragments, as well as mathematically-generated drawings and paintings, into his installations. The effect is one of improvisation and incompleteness married with calm predetermination.

Harrell Fletcher
'Collective Learning'

Harrell Fletcher develops ideas of collective learning that underpin his work as an artist, as well as the collaborative website he initiated with Miranda July, Learning to Love You More. For The Power Plant, Fletcher will invite six artists to collaborate with him on a city-wide series of interventions and projects. In turn each artist will invite a non-artist to work with the group. The exhibition is likely to encompass anything and everything from newspapers to videos, podcasts to handmade banners, as well as guest speakers and performers.
