10 May, 2012 - The gallery presents curator Jens Hoffmann as part of its ongoing International Lecture Series, which brings world renowned artists, curators and critics to Toronto, and is supported this year by the J.P. Bickell Foundation.
Jens Hoffmann (born in San José, Costa Rica, 1974) has been the Director of the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art since 2006. In his talk “Biennials and Curatorial Ambivalence,” Hoffmann will discuss the increasing tendency of deskilling in the field of exhibition-making.

Antoni Muntadas (born in Barcelona, 1942) is a New York-based artist who deftly addresses social, political and communications issues. His work considers the relationship between public and private space within social frameworks, and investigates channels of information and the ways they may be used to censor or disseminate ideas.

17 January, 2012 - The Power Plant will present the award-winning work The Clock by world-renowned artist Christian Marclay
The Power Plant announces a special exhibition of The Clock, a unique and compelling work created by Swiss-American sound and video artist Christian Marclay as an ode to time and cinema. The 48-hour round-the-clock screening of this outstanding work will begin at 6 PM on 21 September and continue through to 6 PM on 23 September, allowing visitors to view it in its entirety; The Clock will be on view during regular gallery hours through 25 November, 2012.

Boyle, Chief Executive Officer of Harbourfront Centre and Shanitha Kachan, President of the Board of Directors of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Harbourfront Centre, are pleased to announce the appointment of Gaëtane Verna to the position of Director, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery at Harbourfront Centre. Verna is scheduled to begin her new position as Director of Canada’s leading non-collecting contemporary art gallery on 1 March, 2012.

The Power Plant will reopen to the public 10 March 2011 with a daylong celebration. The galley will unveil a new visual identity and improved visitor services, including a new lobby, a new website, and three new exhibitions. Festivities begin at noon, when Members of The Power Plant will be the first to enjoy an exclusive first viewing of the new space.
From 6 – 10 PM, the gallery will be open to the public for a celebration of The Power Plant – refreshed.

Report on FORUM: From the Ground Up 17 April 2010
On 17 April 2010, The Power Plant and the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art held a one-day symposium entitled From the Ground Up: A Biennial Platform for International Contemporary Art in Toronto. Over 270 people attended the event and a lively discussion about the potential for a major recurring contemporary art event in Toronto ensued. Now we are pleased to announce the release of the report by independent critic and curator Peggy Gale on the proceedings, followed by a recommendation by the organizers.

The Power Plant – Refresh
6 December, 2010 - The gallery is pleased to announce The Power Plant – Refresh, a project that will upgrade its visitor services and refresh its visual identity.
The Power Plant will reopen on 10 March 2011 with a refreshed identity and improved visitor services, including a new lobby, reception area and retail space. Construction will begin on 3 January for the new lobby, which is the cornerstone of a number of improvements to visitor services at the gallery, both onsite and online.
The Power Plant – Refresh is the name the gallery has given to a project that aims to improve access for existing and new visitors. It will strengthen the gallery’s identity as a leading contemporary art venue, enhance outreach efforts and increase accessibility onsite, online and in all communications. The Power Plant – Refresh will help support and grow the gallery’s reputation as a leader in the presentation of contemporary art, here in Toronto and around the world.
