We are currently looking for a creative, motivated and organized Senior Manager, Marketing, Communications and Visitor Experience to manage and implement all aspects of marketing, communications, and the visitor experience at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery.

  • Position Title: Senior Manager, Marketing, Communications and Visitor Experience
  • Compensation: $85,000-$95,000 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package
  • Reporting To: CEO
  • Direct Reports: Assistant Manager, Marketing & Communications and Assistant Manager, Visitor Experience
  • Type of Employment: Full-time, permanent

Summary of Function

This position develops and leads the implementation of the gallery’s Marketing, Communication and Visitor Experience strategies contributing to The Power Plant’s role as one of Canada’s leading contemporary art galleries that is also recognized internationally as a centre of excellence in visual arts and culture.

Duties


  • Develop and implement integrated branding, marketing, and communications strategies for The Power Plant and its programs, products, and services, ensuring the gallery’s vision, values, and initiatives are effectively promoted to diverse audiences and stakeholders nationally and internationally.
  • Lead the development of written communications and institutional messaging materials, including executive leadership and Board remarks, gallery guides, press materials, marketing copy, and other audience-facing content that reflects The Power Plant’s voice and vision.
  • Develop and lead a comprehensive Digital Media Strategy across social media, website, and electronic communications platforms, implementing initiatives that strengthen audience engagement and achieve organizational targets.
  • Lead all press, influencer and public relations actions to promote the gallery’s brand development, the exhibitions and public programs, as well as all events linked with The Power Plant. Actively pitch and develop relationships with press across applicable verticals.
  • Lead front of house design (FOH) and the visitor experience, developing the look and feel for the FOH and work alongside appropriate teams to design and implement changes that are aligned to TPP's vision and mandate.
  • Oversee training and development of front-of-house staff as led by Assistant Manager, Visitor Experience, including basic safety and customer service training as well as introducing new ways of engaging and communicating with visitors.
  • Develop and implement retail strategies, promotions, and communications to increase awareness and revenue for The Power Plant’s physical and online Shop, including the conception, design, and launch of new merchandise.
  • Oversee the Shop’s visual identity and presentation across in-gallery and digital platforms, including visual merchandising and the creative development and rollout of Shop visuals.

Qualifications & Requirements


  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with experience developing institutional messaging, marketing copy, press materials, executive remarks, and audience-facing communications that reflect a strong and consistent brand voice.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing integrated marketing, communications, and digital media strategies, including social media, website management, audience engagement initiatives, and campaign analysis to achieve organizational goals.
  • Strong public relations, media relations, and partnership development skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with press, influencers, sponsors, stakeholders, and diverse community audiences. Must possess excellent interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, with the ability to oversee visitor experience initiatives, retail and merchandising strategies, creative production, and cross-functional teams. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Criteria


  • Knowledge of contemporary art, Canadian artists, international artists and trends.
  • Knowledge and understanding of French and other languages is an asset.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. All international applicants must have a valid employment Visa authorizing their ability to work in Canada on a full-time, ongoing basis.
