4 O’clock Meeting: A discussion in the Gallery

Thu Jul 23 2026

4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Free Admission (registration opens 4 weeks before the event).

A playful artwork from a MOTHRA residency by artist Alëna Skarina.

Join artist-parents for a reading and discussion about themes raised by the exhibition. Together participants will take turns reading a text aloud and will discuss along the way.

The 4 O’clock Meeting has become a distinct event at the MOTHRA residency. Each day of the residency, artists and children come together at 4 o’clock to discuss a piece of text as a prompt for further discussion. Sometimes a maelstrom of desires, intention, ideas, and synchronicity the 4 O’Clock Meeting has become a performance in itself.
This child-inclusive event is brought to you by MOTHRA: Artist-Parent Project.

MOTHRA is an internationally recognized grassroots project, which has grown because of high interest and demand. The project is interested in what happens when we admit to important social relationships in our lives and - especially for artists - what happens when we bring our children into a studio setting with the intention of making work, either with or alongside our children. MOTHRA is known for its child-inclusive artist residencies. The project has also printed zines, conducted a survey and report, exhibited, and chaired roundtable and panel discussions at conferences. MOTHRA is an art project not a parenting project. It is a perspective, an approach, a disposition, an experiment.

MOTHRA was founded and is directed by artist Sarah Cullen and is based in Toronto.
