Althea Thauberger (born 1970) is an artist based in Vancouver. Her internationally produced and exhibited work typically involves interactions with a group or community that result in performances, films, videos, audio recordings and books, and reflect sometimes provocative departures of social, political, institutional, and aesthetic power relations. Her work has been presented at the Liverpool Biennial (2012); 17th Biennale of Sydney (2010); National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (2009); The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh (2009); Guangzhou Triennial, China (2008); Manifesta 7, Trento, Italy (2008); Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, Vancouver (2008); Vancouver Art Gallery (2008); BAK, Utrecht (2007); Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2006); Kunstverein Wolfsburg, Germany (2006); Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax (2006); Singapore History Museum (2006); Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver (2005); Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst, Antwerp (2005); Berkeley Art Museum (2005); Insite, San Diego/Tijuana (2005); White Columns, New York (2004); and Seattle Art Museum. She was a 2011 finalist for the Grange Prize and her work is represented by Susan Hobbs Gallery, Toronto. Thauberger will speak about her art practice in conjunction with her solo project at The Power Plant, opening 14 December.
