Babette Mangolte, Looking and Touching, installation view, Hansard Gallery, 2007.

We are pleased to present a screening featuring a program of artist Babette Mangolte’s acclaimed film work followed by a conversation with international curator Barbara Clausen. Together, Mangolte and Clausen will speak about the artist’s practice and the relationship between a live event and its documentation.

Mangolte has been involved with dance, theatre, performance art, and performers since the early 1970s when she moved to New York City from Paris. She recently has been creating new works from her photo archives that highlight specific movement in known choreography and has also created media installations testing ways of looking.

In January 2013, Clausen presents the first retrospective exhibition of Mangolte’s work for VOX , Centre d’art Contemporain and the Cinématheque Québecoise in Montréal. Clausen teaches at UQAM in Montréal and writes extensively on performance art and performative curatorial practices. Since 1997, she has worked at Dia Art Foundation in New York, DeAppel in Amsterdam, and dOCUMENTA 11 in Kassel and has curated a series of exhibitions and performance programs at the MUMOK , Vienna; Tate Modern, London; and Argos, Brussels.
