The Power Plant

Ben Coonley: Talking Points + Talking Ponies

Sat Apr 04 2009

3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Brooklyn-based Ben Coonley is a video, performance and new media artist who uses pedagogical modes of address and direct audience confrontation to explore media culture and film history. His humorous work references pop and art culture – from talking toy ponies and Jar Jar Binks to Christo and Jeanne-Claude. For this event, Coonley presents Remapping the Apparatus: Cinematographic Specificity and Hybrid Media, a PowerPoint presentation that dissects and recontextualizes the film theory of Jean-Louis Baudry. A selection of short videos and Internet curiosities accompanies the lecture. Ben Coonley studied at Brown University and received an MFA from Bard College in 2002. His works have been exhibited at the New Museum, New York, International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Second Moscow Biennale.
