Carlos Amorales: Lake Verea

Artist Carlos Amorales was born in Mexico City in 1970 where he lives and works today. His recent work combines sound, sculpture and live performance, encouraging interactions between objects and individuals. He has exhibited at Tate Modern, London; the Philadelphia Art Museum; Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He took part in the 10th Havana Biennale (2009), Performa 07 (2007), the 50th Venice Biennale (2003) and the 2nd Berlin Biennale (2001). His works are in the public collections of Tate Modern, London; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Daros-Latinoamerica, Zurich; Walker Art Center of Minneapolis; Museum Boijmaans van Beunigen, Rotterdam; and the Fundación/Colección Jumex in Mexico.

Amorales’ large scale installation Black Cloud, currently on view at The Power Plant, consists of 30,000 black moths cut out of paper. Amorales will address Black Cloud within the context of his artistic practice including his Liquid Archive, a digital database of images he has been building since 1998.
