The Power Plant is pleased to partner with Hot Docs to co-present the North American premiere of How Are You, a new documentary about contemporary artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset -- the focus of a 2005 survey exhibition at the gallery entitled The Welfare Show.

How Are You profiles the projects, process and rise to stardom of installation art power couple Michael Elmgreen of Denmark and Ingar Drasgset of Norway, known for their bold social commentary, unapologetic queer advocacy and boundless conceptual vision. An artistic and romantic partnership bloomed in Berlin in 1995 and remains strong today. The film presents a retrospective of the artists’ lives and work, culminating in preparations for their design in the 2009 Venice Biennale, when they were honoured with representing their respective countries in the Nordic pavilion. Weaving home footage of their early years of artistic experimentation with contemporary observation of these professionals at work, Jannik Splidsboel stylishly showcases their prolific and provocative oeuvre, and offers insight into the collaborative dynamic that appears to effortlessly produce satirical works of cultural significance.
