Mona Hatoum (born in Beirut, 1952) is internationally recognized for her visually striking, politically incisive work in installation, sculpture, video, photography, and works on paper. She is best known for her singular sculptural works, which evoke conflicting emotions of desire and revulsion, fear and fascination, in viewers. Hatoum has participated in numerous group exhibitions including biennials in Venice (1995 and 2005), Sydney (2006) and Sharjah (2007); in 2010 alone she was included in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim, New York, Hayward Gallery and Tate Modern, London, and the Vancouver Art Gallery. Solo exhibitions have been organized by the Centre Pompidou, Paris (1994), Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (1997), Castello di Rivoli, Turin (1999), Hamburger Kunsthalle, Kunstmuseum Bonn and Magasin 3, Stockholm (2004), Darat Al Funun, Jordan (2008), and the Rennie Collection, Vancouver (2009). Hatoum currently lives and works in London and Berlin.
