After exploring Jeneen Frei Njootli’s exhibition _[The skies closed themselves when we averted our gaze](https://www.thepowerplant.org/whats-on/exhibitions/the-skies-closed-themselves-when-we-averted-our-gaze)_, families will experiment with stamping, monoprint, and stencil techniques. Together, they’ll create a colorful collage from their own printed designs, combining observation, creativity, and hands-on making.

**Plan Your Visit:**
- For ages 7–12 (younger or older siblings welcome) 
- Wear comfortable, art-friendly clothing 
- Parents or guardians must stay with their child 
- Bring a bag or container to take creations home 
- Registration opens 5 weeks before the event

- Meet at the front of the gallery  
- Artmaking on the second floor 

Power Kids

There is an industrial and photo-adjacent focus in Frei Njootli's practice, which incorporates culturally intimate materials that manifest in sculpture, regalia, performance and sound. 

Jeneen Frei Njootli’s work has been presented in many galleries, museums, and artist-run centres around the world. Recent exhibitions include: _Noise of the Flesh: Score for gina pane_, Frac des Pays de la Loire, France (2023–24); _Indian Theater: Native Performance, Art, and Self-Determination Since 1969_, curated by Candice Hopkins, CCS Bard Hessel Museum, New York (2023); _I don’t know you like that: The Bodywork of Hospitality_, UB Art Galleries, Buffalo (2022–23); _Early Days: Indigenous Art at the McMichael_, McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Kleinburg (2020–21); _2021 Triennial: Soft Water Hard Stone_, New Museum, New York (2021–22); _Listen Up: Northern Soundscapes_, Anchorage Museum (2021); _Where Do We Go From Here?_, Vancouver Art Gallery (2020–21); and _Nadia Belerique, Jeneen Frei Njootli, Kathy Slade_, Kunstverein Braunschweig, Germany (2020–21). Selected group exhibitions, biennales, and conferences include: the Anchorage Museum, Alaska (2020); the Toronto Biennial of Art (2020); The National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (2018–19); and the Vancouver Art Gallery (2016–18), among others. Frei Njootli holds an MFA from the University of British Columbia and a BFA from Emily Carr University. They are represented by Macaulay & Co. Fine Art in Vancouver.

Power Kids takes place on select Sundays throughout our exhibition seasons and includes a guided tour in or outside the gallery followed by a short creative activity. Each workshop is different, so kids can return throughout the season and be inspired every time.

Power Kids is a series of free creative workshops for children aged 7–12, led by skilled and dynamic artist-educators and inspired by our current exhibitions.
