The Power Plant

This exhibition viewing and complimentary reception will feature a tour of the Summer 2012 exhibition Tools for Conviviality led by cheyanne turions and a talk by Dave Dyment about his artist project for Dissenting Histories: 25 Years of The Power Plant.

cheyanne turions is a Toronto-based writer and curator. She is the director of No Reading After the Internet (Toronto), sits on the Board of Directors for Fillip and the Editorial Advisory Committee at FUSE, and recently worked with the Images Festival as Off Screen Exhibitions Assistant. She maintains a website devoted to dialogue around curatorial practice at cheyanneturions.wordpress.com.

Toronto artist Dave Dyment has undertaken a new project that began with his exploration of The Power Plant’s archives. Expanding on his practice of research-based conceptualism, his investigation will result in a work that will be presented within Dissenting Histories: 25 Years of The Power Plant during our Summer 2012 season. Working with audio, video, photography, and the production of artists' books, multiples and editions, Dyment’s witty practice mines popular culture, vernacular photography and music. His past projects include a century-aged edition of Glenfiddich malt whisky; a duet with Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo; and the photograph One Billion Years (Past & Future), which arranges dozens of books according to the time frames referenced in their titles. Dyment has exhibited across Canada and internationally, and his work is represented by MKG127, Toronto.

This event is open to all levels of Membership. To RSVP please contact Sarah Heim, Membership & Donor Programs Coordinator at sheim@thepowerplant.org or 416.973.4926.
