Technoself Live Performance by Deantoni Parks

Join us at the exhibition Murderers Bar for an experimental musical response by Deantoni Parks, longtime collaborator of artist Lucy Raven. Parks weaves rhythm, texture, and atmosphere into a dynamic soundscape echoing the work’s tension and mystery.

Upon first glance, the project looks starkly minimal: Parks sits behind a bass drum, hi-hat, and snare with a seemingly insignificant addition of a two-octave mini midi keyboard. Parks dedicates his right hand to the keyboard, leaving the rest of his limbs to oversee the drums. But with the sacrifice of this hand comes an infinite palette of sonic possibilities. Through sophisticated sampling techniques, Parks has access to nearly any sound possible, activated via the nuanced control and accuracy provided by piano-like keys.

Deantoni Parks is a versatile musical virtuoso known for his boundary-pushing approach across genres like now-wave, avant-garde, and experimental music. He co-founded the New York band KUDU and excels in TV and film scoring as part of the duo We Are Dark Angels. A key figure in progressive rock through his electrifying work with The Mars Volta, Parks also explored alternative rock with Bosnian Rainbows alongside Nicci Kasper. Beyond performance, he founded Technoself Immersive, a tech art fair exploring consciousness through art, and the Technoself School of Philosophy, merging philosophy and modern technology. A respected educator, he has taught at the Stanford Jazz Workshop and Berklee College of Music.
