Ryan Rice and Camille Usher join the Black Curators Forum to present the Indigenous Curators Collective's foundation, structure, and functions.
Ryan Rice
Ryan Rice, Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawake, is an independent curator and is currently an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Liberal Arts / School of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) University (Toronto, ON). His institutional and independent curatorial career spans over 25 years in community, museums, artist run centres and galleries. Rice’s writing on contemporary Onkwehonwe art has been published in numerous periodicals and exhibition catalogues, and he has lectured widely. He is currently working on two solo exhibitions; Jordan Bennett: Souvenir for Onsite Gallery and Pageant: Natalie King for Centre [3] while his exhibition Bait: Couzyn van Heuvelen continues to tour in 2021.
Camille Usher
Camille Georgeson-Usher is a Coast Salish / Sahtu Dene / Scottish scholar, artist, and writer from Galiano Island, British Columbia which is the land of the Penelakut Nation. Usher completed her MA in Art History at Concordia University and is currently a PhD candidate at Queen’s University. In addition to her academic work, she is the Executive Director of the Indigenous Curatorial Collective and has worked as an arts programmer in a variety of arts institutions in both Quebec and Ontario. She has artwork currently exhibited in Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts; she is on the curatorial team for MOMENTA 2021; sits on the boards of Artspace in Peterborough and the Toronto Biennial of Art; and finally, is a teaching fellow at Queen’s University.
