In Yto Barrada’s artworks, fake fossils look like real fossils and real fossils are presented as anything other than fossils. Playing with these tenuous lines between illusion and truth, art and trickery, The Power Plant is pleased to show Orson Welles’ masterpiece, F for Fake (1975), a free-form film that is part-documentary and part-fiction.
The film begins with portraits of Elmyr de Hory, a world- renowned art forger and Clifford Irving, de Hory’s equally devious biographer, but is transformed into a dizzying journey that simultaneously exposes and revels in fakery and fakers of all stripes—not the least of whom is Welles, a self-proclaimed charlatan.
This program begins with an introduction and screening of the film, followed by discussion led by Carolin Köchling, Curator of Exhibitions at The Power Plant.
