Fiona Banner: Nude

Sat Mar 03 2007

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

On rare occasions Fiona Banner has included performance as part of her oeuvre. In 2006, Banner created a life-drawing of a model in text. The Power Plant is pleased to announce that Banner will produce her second-ever life-drawing, as part of the Nude series. Fiona Banner investigates the limits and possibilities of written language in works that draw on source material from military hardware and films to pornography and the tradition of the nude. Incorporating unstructured sentences such as “thigh swings out to the side finger red against her hip, splayed, denting the white flesh,” Banner’s word portraits lack beginning or end. Following this performance, Gregory Burke, Director of The Power Plant and curator of Banner’s exhibition, will moderate a conversation with the artist.
