Matthew Higgs is a New York-based critic and artist and Director and Chief Curator of White Columns, the city’s oldest alternative, non-profit art space. Since 2004 he has organized over fifty exhibitions and projects at White Columns, featuring 250 international artists of all generations. Higgs’ artwork often takes the form of framed book pages, exhibition catalogues and photographs in the form of “found conceptual art.” He wrote about the work of Steven Shearer for Artforum in 2002 and contributes regularly to their pages. For The Power Plant ILS, Higgs discusses current critical and curatorial practices.
