Oliver Husain is a German filmmaker, performer and sculptor currently based in Toronto. For this evening, Husain introduces several short films that combine a traveler’s openness to experience and newness with an appreciation of the aesthetic and social possibilities of the everyday. Works featured include Swivel (2003–5), a 10,000 degree pan of Shanghai that knits together downtown with the suburbs, and Shrivel (2005), incorporating panoramic views of Jakarta with signifiers of a globalized lifestyle. Born in Frankfurt-am-Main, Husain studied fine arts in Baroda, India, and film at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach-am-Main in Germany. His films have screened internationally.
