Next time you visit us, look out for five white metal letters scattered around the interior and exterior of The Power Plant building. Can you find all five letters and use them to spell one or more words? If so, tell the person at the front desk and you will be given a prize.
Scavenger Hunt (2023) is a work by Tkaronto (Toronto)-based artist Micah Lexier. Interested in the acts of making, collecting, storing, and organizing, Lexier’s projects over the years have taken on many forms, including large-scale installations, DIY activity booklets, and jigsaw puzzles. His interest in language and its multiple permutations has inspired this playful work that invites you to explore our iconic building.
This work was presented as part of in parallel (2023), a group exhibition that brought together six artists from Tkaronto and surrounding areas in homage to The Power Plant’s inaugural 1987 exhibition, Toronto: A Play of History (Jeu d’histoire). The second in a two-part exhibition, this chapter of in parallel focused on language-based practices, as well as an engagement with materiality and technology intended to renew traditional ways of making art.
On view from June 23, 2023 until August 11, 2024.
