For the eighth year running, Power Talks presents influential art-world figures speaking in the context of the Art Toronto 2013 fair.
Tom Eccles is Executive Director of the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College (CCS Bard). Since joining CCS Bard in 2005, he has overseen the construction of the Hessel Museum of Art, which opened in November 2006. Eccles co-curated the inaugural exhibition of the Marieluise Hessel Collection, Wrestle, among others, and commissioned the permanent installation of Olafur Eliasson’s Parliament of Reality on the grounds of Bard (2009). He also curated the sculpture park for the New York Frieze Art Fair in 2012 and 2013. He was Director of the Public Art Fund in New York City from 1996 – 2005 where he curated more than 100 exhibitions and artist projects.
Eccles will discuss the founding of the Hessel Museum of Art and the building of its collection as a teaching resource to encourage and explore experimental approaches to the presentation of contemporary visual arts.
