The Power Plant

Inspired by Patrick Bernatchez’s remarkable kinetic sculpture Fashion Plaza Nights (2007-2013), this workshop explores the artist’s conceptual embodiment of time and creative ways of seeing the world around us. Beginning with an observational drawing activity and discussion, participants will consider how string can be used, as an art medium, to express the passage of time. Slowly and continuously, one twist at a time, participants will use thread to wrap small hand-made objects containing hidden messages, resulting in a cocoon-like structure. Working together, participants will collaborate by placing their individual sculptures together in a larger installation, followed by a final observational drawing activity. At the end of the workshops, participants will take their creations home.
